There's no doubt that Instagram Reels or short TikTok videos are now the best way for companies or businesses looking to promote themselves. But now when you need to sit in front of the camera and promote yourself – how do you do it right? Clients ask us this all the time, so we've put together a guide to help you create the best possible content:

Finding Inspiration for Your Voice

Hooks, transitions, loops, and everything in between: the internet is full of examples of viral videos that used all kinds of cool tools or unique concepts. Which ones speak to you most? What’s the way you’d feel comfortable expressing your authentic voice? To help with this, we always recommend starting with some internet browsing and saving videos you loved. There’s a huge variety – everything from people filming themselves talking, voiceovers with changing images, or simply quick shots with background music – explore what works best for you! The idea ultimately is to feel comfortable, to find your unique voice that you’ll work with on Instagram, something that fits your tone and filming style… chances are that while watching videos, you’ll already crystallize the idea that works best for you. Don’t be afraid to be creative – everything works!

Filming

Professional filming or amateur filming – honestly, when it comes to Instagram and Facebook videos, it matters less. You’ll know which style suits you best based on your product type and available budget. But either way, this important rule applies to both: the more material, the better! And why? Because when creating a reel, it’s often made up of two-second shots or even less. When you have lots of footage, it allows for flexibility and creativity in editing. And another reason: we love seeing authentic, relatable content! Often, especially in “amateur” filming, it’s precisely the “regular” shots, the in-between moments, the ones where someone stumbled over a word, that keep viewers engaged. So if you’re presenting yourselves, don’t hesitate to be authentic – there are many videos that went viral precisely by highlighting the “awkward” moments in filming.

So how do you actually do it right?

Sound

Most phones today have good recording capabilities, but it’s important to make sure you’re in a quiet place without background noise or echo. Find the right spot in your home and do a sound check to make sure it sounds good. (Even one of our team members records herself in a closet because of the great sound… suitable for non-claustrophobic people who only incorporate their audio 😉) If you’re far from the phone, invest in a quality microphone so you can be heard clearly.

Lights, Camera...

We’re used to just placing the laptop on the desk and simply starting to talk to the camera, but between us – there’s no angle less flattering… We recommend investing time in figuring out what angle shows you at your best. You can place your phone on a tripod, elevate your laptop on books, or even try standing or walking. Experiment, do test shots – the main thing is that you eventually feel you’ve found the right method for you.

Script

By the time you sit in front of the camera, you’ll probably already have a complete script in your head explaining exactly who you are and what product you’re offering. A script is good and important for focus, but our recommendation – don’t get fixated to the text in a way that limits you. It’s there to help you convey the important things, but often when we try to make every word “script perfect”, it ends up holding you back. Speak freely, be authentic, and don’t be afraid to improvise. It’s relatable!

And one more thing: Did you mess up a sentence? Stumble over your words? No big deal, keep going. It’s better to speak continuously for a longer time than to stop and start over.
